The program is no cost to families that qualify. All educators are licensed and certified providers. Family child centered means that the Head Start curriculum and childcare is provided in the homes of educators in the Jefferson county community. Head Start programs also help parents and families achieve their own goals. A family child centered Head Start/Early Head Start program for children ages 0 - 5 years old. Your child can get nutritious meals and health screenings. Our program serves 888 participants in eight counties in East TN: Blount, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Monroe, Sevier and Union. Head Start is also the only nationally recognized program of its kind that provides support to children with disabilities and their families. Programs are free and run year-round for at least eight hours a day. The Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority Head Start / Early Head Start Program was organized by Rose Hill in 1965. Head Start emphasizes your role in your child’s life, and our staff work with you and your child offering programs that support family well-being and positive parent-child relationships.
